Airports
There are three major airports in the Washington, DC region: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (airport code: DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (airport code: IAD) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (airport code: BWI). All three airports offer direct, non-stop, and connecting flights to locations around the U.S. and the world.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Reagan Washington National Airport is the closest and most convenient airport to Howard's campus. DCA has over 300 daily flights to nearly 125 domestic and transborder destinations on nearly 20 airlines.
Washington Dulles International Airport
Washington Dulles International Airport is located 26 miles from Washington, D.C. in suburban Virginia. Dulles Airport is the primary international airport for the DC region and has over 500 daily flights to nearly 140 nonstop domestic and international destinations on nearly 40 airlines.
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is located 32 miles from Washington, D.C. in suburban Maryland. BWI is accessible via the MARC/Amtrak train route that picks up and drops off at Washington Union Station. BWI has nearly over 600 daily flights to over 90 domestic and international destinations on nearly 20 airlines.
Train
The gateway to the nation’s capital since 1907, Washington - Union Station today serves tens of millions of commuters, travelers, diners, and shoppers every year and is the second-busiest train station in the Amtrak network.Union Station connects passengers not only to major cities in the surrounding states of Maryland and Virginia, and coast-to-coast as well. Parking information
Howard University offers a limited amount of parking on campus for students, faculty/staff, and visitors. Our goal is to ensure all patrons receive a fair opportunity to utilize the parking facilities available on campus. Keep in mind that limited parking means limited availability. The university strongly encourages visitors and employees to consider alternate forms of travel when accessing campus. Parking on Howard University's campus is by PERMIT ONLY.
Visitor parking is available on the Howard Center Lot at a rate of $10/day and $200/month (Credit Card Only). The entrance to the Howard Center Lot is located on 8th St. NW.

Public Transportation
Washington, D.C. is home to one of the the cleanest and most efficient subway systems in the U.S. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operates bus and rail. Visitors to the Washington Area can conveniently take Metro from either Washington Dulles International Airport or Washington Reagan National Airport to downtown Washington, D.C. Regional Transportation
Visitors can easily travel from DC to its neighboring states, Maryland and Virginia. The region, commonly referred to as the DMV, has a variety of options in order to serve locals and commuters coming into the District for work and play. However, these modes of transportation can easily carry visitors to sites outside the city. Options include the Fairfax Connector buses in Virginia, the Virginia train system known as the VRE and the MARC train in Maryland. Other regional transportation systems are listed on WMATA’s website.
